2022 E/M Impact Calculator
- March 15, 2022
Compared to the 2020 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS), we expect the 2021 and 2022 MPFS changes to have a significant economic impact across virtually all healthcare organizations. Specifically, changes to evaluation and management (E/M) coding and reimbursement could result in substantial losses for organizations, especially those utilizing productivity-based compensation plans. The exact magnitude of these potential losses will largely depend on many factors, including but not limited to specialty type (e.g., surgical, medical, primary care), case volume, and historical/contractual provider compensation per work RVU.
The significant changes in E/M relative value units (RVUs) initiated with the 2021 MPFS final rule continue with the 2022 MPFS. We recognize that many healthcare organizations are scrambling to update and complete budgets and struggle to quantify these proposed changes’ financial impact.
We have developed an E/M compensation calculator to help organizations estimate the expected incremental impact of the changes.
The calculator provides an estimate of the potential economic impact your organization may face. Please note that the results of the calculations include the national Medicare reimbursement impact based on the volume input. The calculation results are meant for planning purposes only and do not represent an estimation of value.
